Dr Kavitha Kothur has specialist qualifications in paediatric neurology.

She completed her paediatric neurology training at the Children's Hospital at Westmead through fellowships in

• Epilepsy (George Gregan Foundation Fellowship)

• General neurology

• Neuromuscular/Neurogenetics

• Neuroimmunology (Kids Neuroscience Centre )

• General paediatrics/Neuro disability/Rehabilitation and Child Psychiatry​

She is currently a Staff Specialist in Paediatric Neurology in the Department of Neurology at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Dr Kothur has a strong interest in clinical research and teaching. Her thesis during postgraduate training in Paediatrics was awarded a Gold Medal.  She has an appointment as clinical senior lecturer at the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Sydney. She teaches at the Sydney Child Health Program run by the University of Sydney and The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network. She is succesfuly completed her research work at Institute for Neurosciences and Muscle Research (INMR) in developing biomarkers of neuroinflammation leading to conferral of PhD.

 

She published her research in peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research work in national and international child neurology conferences.

She is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Child Neurology Society (ANZCNS), Epilepsy Society of Australia, Royal Australasian College of Physicians, International Child Neurology Congress.

She is a mother of two young girls and understands family needs and challenges faced by the families.
